Cebu’s Medellin Hosts the Dive 7 Festival, Showcasing New Tourist Activities

Cebu’s Medellin, known as the province’s “Sugar Bowl,” became a new hotspot for tourists with the launch of the four-day Dive 7 Festival few years ago. This exciting event, which took place from Thursday to Sunday, offered a variety of unique activities for tourists and locals alike, positioning the town as a prime destination for adventure and leisure.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia highlighted the festival’s diverse lineup, which featured activities such as underwater exploration, target shooting, motorcycle rides, and a photography competition. For the first time, the festival introduced golf and target shooting to its summer festivities, organized by the provincial government, the municipality of Medellin, and the Department of Tourism (DOT) – Central Visayas, through the DIVE 7 program.

Garcia kicked off the event with a ceremonial tee-off at the Queens Island Golf and Resort, while also leading a ceremonial motorcycle ride through Medellin’s picturesque Aisle, known for its bamboo canopies and countryside charm. The festival’s shooting competition took place at the Philippine Army’s 53rd Engineering Brigade.

Medellin’s scenic landscapes, including pristine white beaches and vibrant underwater ecosystems, became key features of the event. The diving component of the festival allowed participants to enjoy snorkeling, deep-sea diving, and even an underwater photography contest. Beginners, including children, had the opportunity to try scuba diving through courses like “bubble maker” and “discover scuba diving.”

The event also offered a convenient one-stop-shop desk for on-site permitting and accreditation services, supported by organizations such as the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving, Maritime Industry Authority-7, and the Philippine Coast Guard.

The Dive 7 Festival successfully introduced Medellin as a burgeoning destination for adventure-seeking tourists, combining the town’s natural beauty with a wide range of exciting beachfront activities.
